In a historic conservation move the government of the United Republic of Tanzania has announced the ban on plastic bag use from the first of June this Year.

In his speech during a budget session in the National Parliament of Tanzania the Prime Minister His Excellency Kassim Majaliwa announced that the last day to use plastic bags in Tanzania will be 31^st May 2019 and from the 1^st June no one will be allowed to produce, import, sell or use plastic bags. He called on the plastic producing industries in the country to diverse some other technology for carrying bags instead of plastics. He said he has directed the minister for environment and union from the Vice President’s office to include the ban in the existing environment law and make it a legal ban.

FORUMCC conducted a study on “Energy and Forest Sectors in Context of Tanzania Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs)”.The study aimed at undertaking an in-depth sector-based analysis of Tanzania (NDCs). Specifically the review: (i) identified gaps and inform existing policies in energy, forest sectors and climate change cross cutting issues, (ii) assessed the contributions of energy and forest sectors in the implementation of (I) NDCs and (iii) analyzed climate finance flows in the energy, forestry sectors and climate change cross cutting issues.The draft report is ready for stakeholders’ inputs and comments to complement one-on-one consultations that were done.

FORUMCC in partnership with Ilala Municipal Council (IMC), Singida District Council (SDC) and Sustainable Environment Management Action (SEMA) is implementing a project entitled “Accountable Climate Actions and Finance Transparency Initiative” (ACATI) funded by European Union. The project aims to strengthen national and local CSOs to advocate and engage the Government to act responsibly and collaborate in relation to environment and climate resilience; Enhance civil societies knowledge, skills and access to information to advocate for improved transparency, coherence and alignment of climate finance, and accountable climate actions; Develop sustainable platforms for collaborative engagement on climate actions between civil society and local authorities.
Thus, the Programme Officer will be responsible for overall implementation of the project and reporting. FORUMCC is currently looking for a dynamic and knowledgeable Programme Officer to enhance the impact of our work.
