About FORUMCC

Driving Climate Justice, Resilience & Sustainable Development in Tanzania

Who We Are

The Forum on Climate Change (FORUMCC) is a Tanzanian non-governmental organization dedicated to advancing climate resilience, climate justice, and sustainable development. We are legally registered under the NGO Act of 2002 (Registration No. 00NGO/00010089). FORUMCC was established in 2008 as a loose network and was under the leadership of the Coordinating team composed of members from TNRF, LEAT, Oxfam, CGP-Tanzania, UNA, MUVEK and EPMS. FORUMCC was initially incorporated in 2013 as a company limited by guarantee under the Companies Act of 2002, and later formally registered as an NGO in 2019.

We are based in Dar es Salaam, but our approach is to work with members and/or through members to effectively achieve organizational goals from the lowest level of vulnerable communities, and practitioners - to the highest level in decision making. We work through a strong platform of 75 member organizations across 20 regions of Tanzania. And we work with/through our platform members because the main purpose of establishing this forum is to ensure effective, informed, and accountable engagement of civil society in climate actions—particularly for the benefit of vulnerable communities and the environment.

Our Purpose

The purpose of the Forum is to ensure effective and informed engagement of Civil Society Organizations in Tanzania on Climate Change issues for the benefit of the environment and people in poverty, women and youth, who are mostly affected by the impacts of climate change. It strives to achieve climate-proofed policies and practices using an evidence-based approach to accelerate adaptation and mitigation actions to address climate change vulnerability and a low-carbon pathway.

Vision

is to see Tanzania that is a resilient nation ensuring sustainable economic growth, and dignified futures for its people in the face of increasing impacts of climate change.

Mission

Is to empower communities, influence policies, and drive evidence-based climate action that fosters resilience, justice, and sustainable development in Tanzania.

Values

Justice • Inclusivity • Accountability • Sustainability

Our Focus

Our focus encompasses adaptation, mitigation, and inclusive participation, aiming to influence policies, empower marginalized groups, and promote sustainable solutions to climate challenges in Tanzania.

Governance & Management

Our governance structure includes a Board of Directors and Technical Advisors with extensive expertise in climate change, natural resource management, budget and policy analysis, finance and economics, community development, international relations, renewable energy, gender, and related fields.

The FORUMCC has a secretariat mandated to manage the activities of the Forum. FORUMCC’s approach is to implement programs with members and through members; thus, the secretariat is managed and run by a small team of professionals. This approach strengthens FORUMCC’s relationship with its members while building the capacity of member organizations through “learning by doing.”

It also forms synergies and ensures macro-micro linkages in our engagement.

We have three categories of staff: the Management Team, Professional Technical Staff, and Supporting Staff. These include the Executive Director, Programme Managers/Coordinators, Finance & Administration Officers, Program/Field Officers, MEAL and Communication Officers, Volunteers, Interns, Office Assistant, and Finance Assistant.

The number of employees depends on the projects being implemented at a specific time. Consultants (professional experts) are hired on a short-term basis to complete specific tasks related to FORUMCC programmes and projects.

FORUMCC has a Board of Directors that supervises the Secretariat. The Board sets strategic direction, approves policies, plans, budgets, and reports, and supports resource mobilization. It acts as the disciplinary and advisory organ of the organization, ensuring compliance with national laws and adherence to the highest ethical and moral standards while overseeing all organizational affairs.
